Nurse gets prison time for helping inject fake Botox

by brian Staff

PORTLAND, Ore. - A nurse who helped inject hundreds of patients with an illegal animal toxin instead of Botox was sentenced to one year in prison on Monday.
Cathryn Garcia was an assistant to Dr. Jerome Lentini, who ran two 'A Younger You' clinics, one in Tigard and another in Salem.
Garcia admitted she and Dr. Lentini lied to patients about their treatment, using a form of Botox that is not approved for humans.
The unapproved botulinum toxin is cheaper than the FDA-approved Botox, which is a registered trademark and the only type of botulinum toxin approved for wrinkle-smoothing treatment on humans.

On the Oregon State Board website, in the September 2005 Sentinel, a Cathryn L. Garcia was given an interim consent order to practice in limited scope and setting. I wouldn't be surprised to see further action now that she's been convicted.

This so-called nurse knew she was injecting a substance that was NOT an approved treatment. I take it that she was PAID to do this?? What a loathsome creature. This calls for imprisonment of MORE than 1 year-How "bout 5 years or so. This broad did take an oath- sounds like money is her game- NOT healing.

Is the MD getting the same or more prison time? Or was he able to afford a better lawyer?

I found it interesting that during the period in which the MD ordered over 41,000 units of "substitute" Botox, he also ordered 300 units of real Botox.

Wonder how he and this nurse made the decisions regarding which clients got the "fake" Botox and who got the real stuff?

This was probably an attempt to look legitimate and/or have vials of the real deal on hand in case anyone questioned them.

It's just boggling that people think they can get away with criminal behavior. I agree with the other posters that 1 year is light punishment.

If it were only a year I would agree the punishment is light. However, she is now a felon and will surely lose her license. That will cost her for the rest of her life.

I think the article said the Doc is facing 1.5 years in prison. Hopefully his license will go into the shredder also.

The cosmetic thing is really scarey these days.
I can't believe she injected it, if she knew it wasn't the correct type of bottulism.
so sad.
