Like so many other organisational approaches and "health bills" this appears to have two sides. One is to point out to the public that there are not enough nurses employed in the health care systems ( is that the choice of the organisation or is this to demonstrate that there is a "genuine" shortage of trained, experienced nursing professionals? The public naturally will react, particularly when a family member or friend is at the receiving end of nursing shortage/ ie patient care.
The second aspect is to reinforce how the nursing profession is part of a chess game where nurses overall, are the pawns and moved around to reinforce the more powerful pieces, easily sacrificed and useful in a strategic move.
The questions which arise here are , what is this really going to achieve?
Is the motive purely political, does it emphasize the weakened position of nursing professionals overall?. Will it improve health care and hospital management and does it allow nursing professionals a seat at the table as part of the overall management strategy where our profession can speak independently and be listened to and valued as significant decision makers?
