Re: Notable Nurses - Laura Berg - Accused of sedition
"Her superiors at the hospital soon alerted the Federal Bureau of Investigation and impounded her office computer, where she keeps the case files of war-scarred veterans she treats. Then she received an official warning in which a Veterans Affairs investigator intoned that her letter “potentially represents sedition.”
RE: The Berg story - the latest info is in a link below my message - long story short, this is America, thank God!
Hi everybody - I started this thread, because I thought Laura Berg is both interesting and brave to speak out. This is what kills me - the FBI was alerted. Remember all the information that came out after 9/11 about the behavior of some of the terrorists in this country. The most extreme was the one who told his flight instructor he didn't need to learn to take off, just fly the airplane. Berg did nothing wrong, but I do think she should have considered her audience better, and it was foolish not too. I was a teenager during the Viet Nam war, and started spewing when we had a high ranking military guy over for dinner. It was just inappropriate and downright rude. Was I helping to promote peace by my behavior? Nah, just acting like an obnoxious teenager, which was exactly what I was at the time.
I thank my lucky stars every day for living in the United States for unaccountable reasons, but freedom of speech is way up there for me. I recently saw "Clear and Present Danger" on TV and I recommend it to anybody who didn't see it first time around. Sure, people in power have the ability to do corrupt things. The difference is that in this country, they're less likely to get away with it. Berg had a right to say what she thought, no matter how inappropriate it might have been.
Meanwhile, a senator from New Mexico stood up for her, and she is receiving a PEN award for her actions. The link is below.
