I work in long term care and get upset when I see advertisements by attorneys for nursing home negligence. Do not get me wrong, if the care is negligent, then by all means the resident and family have the right to sue, but the advertisements make it sound like if a resident losses weight, falls, or has a bed sore you have the right to sue.

As of yesterday, there was no information about Dr.Pou's case. These three women have been waiting for over a year to find out if they are going to be put on trial for murder, a crime that carries a mandatory life sentence in Louisiana. They could have just walked away when they had a chance to evacuate and no one would have blamed them. It makes me wonder if anyone wants New Orleans to recover, or if this is the kind of malignant neglect that ensures there won't be volunteers and essential workers who stay at their post in an emergency.

Dr. Pou is suing Attorney General Foti. There is a rally in her defense in New Orleans tonight. This will be interesting.

there is a message board on Nola.com, the site of New Orlean's newspaper, the Times-Picayune. Some of the messages are so hateful that I fear for the safety of these three women if they stay in New Orleans. there is a lot of rage about substandard medical care, unequal justice and racism that is looking for a target, and these women are in line to be scapegoats. also, there are religious people who see them as agents of euthanasia--there is a strong anti-abortion lobby that often uses the case as an example of everything they oppose. if you want to put in a word of support for medical workers who were trying to do the best they could in a crisis, go to Nola.com.

Don't get so upset over this. It may take litigation to get those of you that work in LTC better nurse-to-patient ratios.

I am wondering if anyone with legal experience could comment on Attorney General Charles Foti's plan to release all the evidence he asssembled against the three medical workers in New Orleans. All of this will be the case against. Lori Budo, Cherie Landry and Anna Pou have not told their stories to the press, and if this information is released it will be all accusations and no defense, unless the press is diligent in evaluating all the evidence. It's a lot to ask of the press, New Orleans seems to be a one-newspaper town.

Drop this persecution, Mr. Foti

Re: "Foti keeps pressure on in Memorial death case," Page A1, July 26.

Attorney General Foti, what are you doing? Didn't you learn as a child that it's not if you win or lose, it's how you play the game?

All I have to say is you have failed in both. Not only did you lose, but also you played the legal game poorly, and you don't take losing well. Give it up. You lost! Leave these poor women alone....
