the national nursing shortage has grave implications. studies show nurses are key to your care. when the number of nurses goes down, death rates go up. ...

[color=#006699][color=#006699]return to nursing is a pilot project focused on alleviating the nursing shortage in the greater indianapolis area by providing an opportunity for registered nurses who have stepped away from active practice to refresh their knowledge and clinical competency in order to re-enter the practice environment successfully.

Sounds like a good idea. If I read it correctly it is only for persons away 5 for fewer years. Sounds like pretty sever restriction to me. They are probably denying themselves a lot of potential candidates.

It' a good start, but it doesn't address the reasons nurses left in the first place.

My first though was "If they left, why in Gods' name would they want to go back?" Sad, isn't it? I presume that in many cases, those nurses, with thier current competencies, wouldn't have left 5 years ago if working conditions weren't so brutal. Not all nurses, but probably a good number of them.

Some people leave to raise their children. I know a lot of nurses work while pregnant and leave their child with someone/daycare. I personally decided to stay home with them while they were young.
