    Linda Knodel MSN, RN wanted to be a nurse ever since she was a little girl.

    She was a candy striper, studied nursing in college and worked at a North Dakota hospital for more than three decades, starting as a night shift nurse and working her way up to senior vice president and chief nursing officer.

    Now Mercy's Chief Nursing Officer, Linda was hired at Mercy in 2010 as vice president and chief nursing officer in the Springfield region, overseeing about 2,000 nurses. She talks about why she went into nursing and what she brings to Mercy.

    Knodel was recently elected as the president-elect of the American Organization of Nurse Executives, part of the American Hospital Association. She will assume that office Jan. 1 and become president in 2014.
