Japanese Nurses Abandon Caps

  1. 1 Nurses in Japan are going the way of those in the United States, Canada and Europe in abandoning caps as part of required uniform whilst on duty.

Asian countries like many South American ones tend to be rather conservative socially which one assumes is the reason nurses in those countries have remained pretty much in whites and caps long after much of the rest of the world has moved on.

I'd rather like to see if any studies were done on how much bacteria is harbored on a nurse's cap. I doubt they were washed frequently.

What I found most interesting about the story is that a high school has a nursing class. Their educational system must be very different than ours here, at least as far as nursing goes.

The call buttons in my hospital have the outline of a nurse with a cap on it. I'm not sure if it's sexist, anachronistic, or a mix of both...
