Yeah, a little creepy. Imagine going into a pt room with Smokey following behind, bumping into the door frame and telling a pt you're going to lift them with this. Let's see, creepy robot, outstretched arms, jerky movement....reminds me of Lost in Space robot. "Warning, warning Dr Smith...Teddy just dropped your patient"

It's nice they tried to make it friendly appearing, and that they offer a lift device at all. Where I work now--we have our backs-and mine aches! I'd like to crawl into Teddy's arms and have it give me a massage.

our employers have been sued for fialing to provide equiment and trianing to protect staff for muscosketal injurys occured during pt care.

From the "No-lift" aspect, I think its a good idea - its just another lifting machine that we use in our hospitals (maybe kids would love it--being picked up by a Teddy bear, haha!!!)

And I think its good that, well, if a pt gets dropped,..........er.......ummmm, "It's Teddy's fault, not mine!!" -----especially when Teddy fractures his Ulna or Radius, because Mr or Mrs. XXX was just WAY TOO HEAVY for his arms!!

On a serious note, it would be sad if robotics start taking over the care and work of a nurse. Robots can't show and feel emotional responses, and they can't ascertain how a patient feels. One-to-One nursing care -- from a human nurse can't be beaten by ANYTHING.....well, unless you're a bad nurse with a bad attitude, then I guess a robot will outdo ya any day, haha!! .........But really, could you imagine those thick arms sliding under your back so it can pick you up, Ouch!!! It would be soo uncomfortable I think !!

Yes, I agree that is probably the goal (just think how much money admin could save by not bothering with the pesky, demanding money hungry RN's! lol), but I don't think it will happen anytime soon. I mean, seriously, according to this article it says that it is voice controlled, for all the LTC nurses can you just picture this scene-

"Hi Mrs. ____, I am teddy and I am going to put you into your w/c." says the robot.

Patient, "I am not Mrs. __________ now get out!". The robot leaves....goes to the nurse and asks where is Mrs. ______? The nurse tell him and he returns to the same room. Repeats, "Hi Mrs. ______, I am teddy and I am going to put you into your w/c." The patient repeats (wiht expletives this time), "I am NOT Mrs. _________, now get the H____ OUT of here!". And round and round they go? lol

Hmmm, time saver? Or another technological 'marvel' that we will have to help the 'inventing' company fix...all in the name of 'helping' the nurse, ha! More like help to make them richer!
