The largest hospital system here in Houston has this policy.
I'm a smoker...working on it though.
If it were easy to quit no one would be doing it.
I do understand the policy and don't complain..as it's my own doing that I am a smoker.
I take responsibility but....I would have loved to work at a local recovery center (drugs and alcohol) but didn't dare even apply because of their non smoker policy...forget about the fact those clients are forever in the courtyard smoking.
Being a smoker doesn't make me a bad nurse. I'm just not an ideal one.
I don't smell like I smoke...been told that over and over.
I don't take a million breaks..in fact I normally don't ever smoke when 'at work' or on my jobs property.
But it just sucks...I would have loved that job.
I am going to have to quit...and then apply.
