Wow, this would indeed be a huge asset to preventative medicine. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for results of these & related studies.

I wish we had this a couple of years ago. A young relative of mine developed DM Type I after coming down with a viral infection ~ changed her life forever.

In the ninties a study showed that a combination of genetic predisposition, a virus, and having been fed a cows milk formula led to Type I diabetes in some people.

This more recent study addresses it too:
http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/art...?artid=1808709

My maternal grandmother was adopted, therefore was bottle fed in the 1890's. She became diabetic in 1932, the year insulin was discovered and lived until 1978.
She breast fed her first two kids but was advised not to do so with my Mom because she was too thin.
My Mother developed type I diabetes at age 27.
Her older siblings lived into their late 80's.
Mom couldn't tolerate cows milk so her homeless dust bowl refugee family traveled with a goat.

Of course here is hoping also that people will actually get the vaccine if it does indeed turn out to prevent diabetes. Especially no a days when parents are refusing to get their kids vaccinated period due to possible link between certain vaccines and autism. I for one am looking forward to reading more about the results of this particular study. My brother died at age 40 from kidney failure due to diabetes.
