    actress Helen Mirren goes on record to say she thinks many hookers were nurses!!!

    I am so offended and incensed by this.....is there some way to collectively demand an apology? I used to be such a fan of hers UNTIL NOW

    Actually, she's not that far off. Before Florence Nightengale legitimized nursing as something to aspire to, "nursing the sick" was often punishment for women involved in criminal activity, which would have included prositution, begging, thievery, etc.

    I don't think the actress was comparing today's nurses with prositutes.

    What was the context of what she was trying to imply? I have a great respect for her and I'm sure she was probably joking or being ironic. I am British and the British sense of humor takes some getting used to! I give her the benefit of the doubt until I hear otherwise. She's a smart lady.

    Well, with the expectations of some, this is not far off. There are different ways to prostitute oneself and many people do it to keep their job, even if they don't acknowledge that is what they are doing.

    She was not speaking historically she was talking about today's nurses and she was dead serious. Clearly she's not as bright as we assumed, that is what comes from confusing the roles one plays with the real person. There is no doubt she is a great actress but outside of that field she appears to be woefully ignorant.
