Georgia: Children's Health Coverage Threatened

    The state will stop enrolling new children in its health insurance program for low-income families because federal money is running out, officials said. It was unclear how many children might be affected by the freeze, which is to take effect March 11. Rhonda Medows, head of the Department of Community Health, said the PeachCare program, which insures 270,000 children, would continue to operate as long as possible. Georgia faces a $131 million shortfall in federal money for PeachCare, and state officials have said it could run out of money next month,
