This was done a couple of months ago in one of our ICU's except they put it through a NG. The pt was dying and needed some kind of intervention. Apparantly it helped. If this ever had to be done to me, you'd better make sure I'm unconscious or I'm pretty sure I would start to vomit. I can't help but think which one of my relatives I would want to collect and donate their poop!

Yuck! Thru an NG?! I wonder why it has to be a relative?

Ok, I am all for "new procedures" but geeez louise....

Ok so shall I point this part out that was in the article? "I had to collect stool samples for five days prior to our leaving Toronto, and I collected it in an ice cream container and kept it in the fridge," said Sinukoff.

Was that kept near the milk or eggs? I mean come on..... I freak out if my lettuce starts looking wilted.... Can you imagine if you open the wrong container, as husbands (at least mine) do. "Oh, honey what's this"? There are SO MANY health implications with this alone. Not many things make my stomach want to explode but that is RIGHT UP THERE>

I JUST had another thought....how about the "people or persons" who were sitting around a table one night eating tacos and said, "Hmmm let's try a poop n scoop transplant" and then the TRIAL AND ERRORS that ALWAYS follow new ideas. I wonder what happened to the first "test subjects." hmmmmm

Our Dr.s will hear about this because we do see alot of C-Diff and it seems to be getting more prevalent. It makes sense. Over use of antibiotics is going to destroy most every natural defense we have. People need to stop running to the doctor with every little sniffle they have. I kept my boys home for 5 days when they had temps over 103. Some illnesses need to run their course and let the body's natural defense build up!!!

I wonder why she used an ice cream container, they don't seem all that secure to me, I would have used a pickle jar. If flying with your stool becomes popular, they may start instituting guidelines-only 3 oz allowed as carry-on and must be in clear plastic bags.

If this treatment becomes popular they might have to make modifications.
Can you imagine a poop processing plant to isolate the desired organisms into a oral preparation?

    Sounds almost Sci-FI.

    Oh and don't forget this.

Oh Antie Em :icon_eek::icon_twisted:. Merry Christmas to you:Present1:. I want to take time out during this Holiday Season to thank you personally for your life saving POOP donation for my transplant proceedure.:Singing: :icon_mrgreen:

    Gross.....

Why can't they just culture natural bowel flora, (e. coli, bacteroides, enterobacter, etc) in a lab environment, suspend it in a saline solution, and then give it as an enema? Why does it have to be actual POOP??

in regard to this fecal transplatation doesnt feces degrade and bacterium increase if specimen is not refrigerated i would like to get the opinion of a pathologist or gastrologist on this one
