That still does not give him the right to play around with something that he was'nt familiar with. That's some one life he took and all he gets is 1 yr.

I have to agree. He may have had remorse, but that punishment wasn't enough. Lots of lives were changed forever because of something he thought would be funny. My children would have had more sense than that. GEEZ!!

Plus, why didn't the other paramedic STOP, call for help and try to stablize her instead of holding up a limp body and driving. They obviously had all kinds of equipment at hand. (EKG, IV supplies, meds, etc) Then when help arrived, kicking that guy's butt.
great point. great point.

The CPR class I took taught us about AED's, not paddles, but - they did mention to make sure everyone is clear before pressing the button. In other words, you don't want to get shocked. Any reasonable person should be able to make the jump that if you don't want to get shocked unnecessarily by an AED, you sure don't want to get shocked unnecessarily by paddles. Duh. This guy sounds so immature. And if it's true that he wanted to shock her while she was driving...apparently he doesn't mind if he and everyone else in the van also die!

IN 1985 I worked in ER at Naval Hospital Orlando when a co-worker did this same thing to himself at the lowest setting, he placed a paddle on each ear and did it. It was hands down the scariest, stuped thing I have ever wittnessed in my life. He lived, no thanks to his own actions.

Stupid. I had a medical student put paddles to both sides of his head once and shock himself into a seizure. Once, when I was working in the ICU, our beds were old and the metal rails went up in one piece. A patient coded. The nurse, instead of taking the time to put the bed rail down, stood on the rail, leaned over and attempted to defib the patient, shocking herself. She was coding on the floor while the patient was coding in the bed. We decided that she needed to work in another area after that.

lost a cardiothoracic surgeon that way before I started working for this one facility. Nurse didn' t yell clear or something happened (this is what happens when panicking is contagious in codes). I always lighten it up by joking or saying "the patient just whispered to me and said he wants Epi, one vial....the patient just told me he thinks he wants to be shocked at 300j".....anything to get people to relax and think during a code.

This situation is different. All my SE Asia travel tainted me...makes me wanna say it was karma and he was going to do it anyway despite her telling him not to, his karma was more powerful and he's paying for something he did in a past life.

Certainly not the first, nor the last person to be imprisoned for doing something stupid.
