NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. -- A doctor was cleared of charges he sexually abused six patients, including an 8-year-old girl.
Orange County Court Judge Stewart Rosenwasser found Dr. Mahavir Singh, 52, of Cornwall, innocent Friday.
Singh practices in New Windsor, 55 miles north of New York City. Police arrested the doctor after questioning him about a patient complaint in July 2003.
The judge said the 8-year-old girl was in the doctor's office with her mother and later complained that the doctor had put his hand up her skirt.
Rosenwasser said one of Singh's accusers continued to visit his office even though she claimed he had groped her. He said another accuser recommended the doctor to someone else.
The judge also said the women's stories changed. Prosecutors said it was reasonable to believe that victims' testimony could change slightly.
Though Singh has been cleared of the sexual abuse charges, he still faces an inquiry from the state's Office of Professional Medical Conduct.
