I work at a rural 60 bed hospital. My hospital just got a new CEO and he is buying a 600k house.

If his house is 600k,than for that kind of mortage, his salary has to be = to around 300k ( this is just my guess/opinion ans I'm guessing at what mortgage companies call the loan to income ratio: or loan to value. I think mortage lenders have tightened up their lending spree ways now a days because of all the forclosures and they have to make sure that the mortgage applicant can afford the payments, they have to watch making people "house poor" translation spending all their income on a mortage payment.) I would safely guess is salary( and for a 60 bed rural hospital) his salary is 300k/year. This is disgraceful. with cut backs on the floors/bedside- nurses being handed buy-outs on retirement and no replacing of nursing staff. no hiring of nursing grads. UN-ACCEPTABLE!!! UN FORGIVEABLE!! How can some one accept that kind of a salary knowing what is going on in ALL hospitals/healthcare these days. CRIMINAL!!

Sorry, but as disgraceful as it may be, it is also good business on the part of the hospital. They hired a CEO who is a proven money maker to improve their bottom line. Upper management at that level bring money into the business, unlike nurses who, consistent with a long history of letting themselves be used as doormats, are an ever-increasing expense that will allow management to treat them as brutally as they wish.

I want to know where retired nurses are being rehired into the workforce, and experienced nurses in general are being given preference over new grads. Where I am, nurses over fifty are praying to God to keep their jobs another day, and more experienced nurses with seniority/longevity are being shown the door. Older nurses are not finding jobs unless they are in a specialty and competing against a very small applicant pool. I have yet to see a retired or semi-retired nurse get hired except as a traveler or agency nurse, and even then without guarantee of assignment.

There is no shortage of nurses out here. What there is, is a shortage of working nurses.

I am in Michigan. Obviously not all areas in Michigan are affected but the major cities are, and this experience is shared all over the nation. Here are some recent related articles for you to read. Your area may be unique--feel lucky.

Please note that most articles state this is temporary due to the recession, and that it is still expected that nurses will be in demand again. It is the recession that had given the illusion of no current nursing shortage.

Fetid craniums!

Seems like we should be contacting the media or someone...just to tell them "where's the beef?" Where's the jobs?

Been looking for 3 months now!
