The only way of absolutely ensuring that staff nurses' voices remain silent is by not commenting.

Attended PA State Nurses Assoc Town Hall Meeting Thursday evening at Villanova University and brought my new grade RN employee to help understand how speaking up is vital to nursing role/profession, need to learn how to navigate politically at work & state/national level and impact professional associations have on state/federal legislation.

Silence is golden, only applies to movie theaters....

There isn't enough explanation in the time study to explain much of anything. I wish people would realize that nurses actually have a college degree which includes things like statistics and economics. Perhaps then the publishers of these so called "time studies" wouldn't play these numbers games?

As a metaphor, the table is not defined. Who is at it? How does it come into play? Who decides what there?

What you seem to have said, is that everyone needs to communicate in order to agree on the course of action that nursing needs to take, in order to be a driving force for itself. That often gets lost in the planning shuffle, when it's taken over by administrators, doctors and those who want to showcase their talents, rather than build a stage for us to display our talents.

The time for that is NOW, AND WE NEED TO SET THE TABLE IN A WAY THAT WE GET WHAT WE AND OUR PATIENTS NEED.
