Come to the beach...catch MRSA...

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php...show_article=1

Well, apparently MRSA likes to go to the beach as much as we do. It was found in the sand (not the water) on 5 beaches out of 10 surveyed in Washington State and California.

Ya know, I guess I'll just stay home and live in a ziploc bag....

oh great, I live in WA and frequent the beaches all the time. But I am not going to stop going; just be careful to keep clean and hope for the best. I have done fine for 10 years. I am sure it will be ok.

It's not surprising being that SO MANY people take antibiotics and some waste is getting to the oceans. I don't remember where I read about the testing of drinking water around the country in different cities, but here in SF, they found high levels of sex hormones in the drinking water. In other cities, they have found high levels of residue from cardiac medications and diuretics.

It's yet another sign that we are over prescribing medications and TOO many people in this country are medicated. In my opinion, it's scary and is something that really needs to be looked at and prevented. What about the effects on the marine life, I wonder if this bacteria affects them in the same way or even similar?

According to the link you posted no MRSA found in CA beaches and it is in the water in Washington

Obviously it is in South Florida as well

Anyways, that's the last place I would have thought mrsa would be! I play ice hockey and mrsa is a big problem in locker rooms...

Deadly "Superbug" Found on US Beaches

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, a so-called superbug that causes hard-to-treat skin infections and serious illnesses such as pneumonia, has been found in sand and water samples taken from five beaches along Washington’s west coast. A previous study also found it in ocean water near a South Florida beach. This antibiotic-resistant strain of staphylococcus is usually found in hospitals but increasingly has been spreading in settings such as schools, locker rooms, and gyms. While doctors are not recommending that people avoid beaches, they say beachgoers should cover any open cuts or scrapes before playing in the sand and shower afterward. More ... Discuss

I'll just go fishing on the Gulf Coast as I do frequently and fry up my catch to kill the MRSA, instead of broiling or grilling. I can let the deep fat frying do the job on my arteries. Cardiac disease v. MRSA. Hmmm...
