Nope - I love my country and California - although the tax rate is toooo high. We could do something about taxing small businesses so highly that they move out of the state. Still wouldn't make me want to move though.

I think Arnold is in favor of gay marriage and against "amending" the Constitution. He is a social liberal and a fiscal conservative. He also didn't "slap down" the nurse/patient ratio . .he postponed the 5:1 for further study - you can debate whether that was right or wrong but he didn't slap the ratio down - we still have 6:1.

only to a degree though. What happens to teachers who work in areas where students are at risk, transient and ESL students? I worked in public elementary schools for a few years and I witnessed one teacher burst into tears when 2 russian students were added to her class roster 1 week before acheivement testing. They barely spoke any english (literally!) and yet their test scores would count towards her job performance evaluation. That is not fair but essentially that is what merit pay will do unless it is completely revamped as a program.
Then, why can't these considerations be factored in? I think they should factor in ESL and LD populations and adjust performance scoring accordingly. It seems like such a "duh" to me. We all know not all schools or districts are created equally. Punishing teachers for variables they cannot control is stupid, yes. School districts and State Education Boards are such bureaucracies, though, so making such a simple adjustment would never happen. Another reason to homeschool.

I don't think spending tax dollars on stem cell research is fiscally conservative.

He did "slap down" the safe staffing requirements for emergency departments.

Stem cell funding was voted on. Can't balme Arnie for that one.

I did not watch the show mentioned, but I am not surprised to read the nurse was given no respect by either the commentator or the other guest. We, as nurses are not shown respect for our services and care on a daily basis, so why would we expect it on national TV? Until people realize that we are very valuable and not there just to make the patient feel better, but we are doing a very tough and demanding job that takes education and skills to perform, we will never get the respect we deserve as a profession. I hope the teachers and the nurses in California hang "Big Arnold" out to dry.
I give you major applause for these comments! Bravo! Couldn't have said it better myself!

Arnie?......reality check for ya...........you are NOT acting in the role of governor. you are playing with real lives there in California. Snap out of it, Arnie! :angryfire

The Governor made TV advertisements for the proposition.

Morning Edition, October 19, 2004 - California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger endorses a $3-billion bond measure that would fund human embryonic stem cell research. The endorsement comes as California faces record deficits. Fellow Republicans have backed limits on embryonic stem cell research. Hear NPR's Steve Inskeep and political analyst Sherry Be***** Jeffe.

The script that has been written for Arnold is flawed because what the public wanted from the gov was someone who could sweep the money out of politics. The people know that when big business is picking up a $40 million production budget it ain't an independent movie.
