Notice...throughout the article, there are numerous state employees that got huge pay....but they focused on a NURSE!

You mean a lowly nurse dared to make that much money?

    That's an OUTRAGE!!

When a nurse starts making that much money for doing....well....whatever a nurse does, (it surely doesn't warrant THAT much compensation), then it's just GOT to stop!!

The father of one of my daughter's teenage friends made good money working overtime for the CDC. It was very tempting when I found out about it back then. However, I think he only got about half the compensation quoted in the article; he was an LVN.

We can say all we want, how the public loves and trusts nurses, and we come out on top every year when the public is polled on the most trustworthy profession.

But the reality is, the public thinks we are a bunch of underedeucated, overpaid females, who get paid way too much to pass out pitchers of ice watere and fluff pillows. They have no concept of the important role that we play, and hospitals work VERY hard, to keep it that way. The public equates worth with education.

That is one of the main reasons that I advocate increasing the entry into practice for nurses, and advocate that ALL nurse join the National Nurses Organizing Commitee. With union protection, nurses can educate the public, fight the deskillling of our profession, and have a voice.

There is no better time than now to protect our professiona image and practice. I am seeing ads on buses for pharmacists, and how important they are to your health care, etc, blah blah blah.

They are being proactive in the face of some form of health care reform with Obabacare. They are ensuring their piece of the pie. Nurses need to follow suit and start plugging ourselves to the public before we really are replaced by Medtechs.

Incompetent management creates the need for overtime. Why not hire enough nurses?

Don't blame the nurse, who was probably begging for help and a day off! She did not get the teacher's job or salary. She worked overtime because of all the cutbacks in her profession as well. Just like all the teachers that are still employed are having to do the work of those that were laid off.

I hope you were being fascetious. I sometimes think i make enough money, but not often. It has more to do with the economy than what i actually do. But i think nurses should make a lot more than they do.

I believe that it will get to the point that people will have their "primary care nurse" as well as their pcp. There is just too much to be done that is not being done and people are getting sicker instead of better.

As a proud CDCR nurse, I have to say that whatever money she made, she deserves at least double the amount.
