CNAs aren't the only direct care workers who can get assaulted by violent patients or residents.

If the persons who assault health care workers are mentally competent, charges should be filed. If they are not competent, health care facilities should be held responsible for their workers who are hurt. Period.

It is reprehensible that two large health care bureaucracies are fighting with each other over which will pay for this woman's care while she is NOT receiving the care she obviously needs. Pay for her care now, figure out who is financially responsible once she is getting care, but DON'T let her continue to suffer like this.

An example of what all of us can expect under the same or similar circumstances. Wish they would have published a contact so that the public could help the family with what the reponsible party(ies) are unwilling to do.

Moogie,

You are so right. You said it all. CNA are not the only health care workers who have to deal with the combative patients. Nurses also go through so much. I feel so bad for her family.

I dont' know why we're so surprised at stories like this, however sad and tragic.

We all know, deep down, that we're seen as nothing more than expendable pawns caught in the money games management plays.

Sad and cynical, but true...

Chalk another one up for the irresponsible corporate healthcare world. The hospital, blue cross and workman's comp need to stop fighting and all 3 should ACCEPT responsibility. The fighting only serves to keep the spin doctoring going- as long as the fighting is published - which corporation said what about the other, it takes the focus off the woman's final statement to her family in the restaurant and the medical facts - the c/o of "not feeling well "and a "HA", only a few days after the attack, and the medical FACTS = the increase in ICP, the elevated BP, the vessel popping and a hemorrhagic stroke. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck- it's a duck.

This makes me so mad. She did exactly what they told her to do. She reported the incident and the attempted to go to the clinic as instructed but was turned away. We don't know what kind of head injury she had.. the article doesn't say, but until proven otherwise I would have to believe that it was related to the assault. I had an employee who was assaulted in the ED once and hit in the head. Afterward she began to have horrible headaches. When she would bend down, she would have this clear drainage come out of her nose. She went to the doctor and they thought it was a sinus problem. Nothing worked. Finally someone checked the pH of what was coming out of her nose and it turned out to be CSF fluid. The injury to her head had resulted in a tear in her dura with a CSF leak. They could not repair it and she was never able to return to work. Workers comp just needs to pay up on this woman's claim and get it over with. It is just not right what they are doing to her.

Insurance games. What a bunch of weasels. The hospital needs to step up to the plate and do what's right for this lady. Good grief.
