The bill has not been introduced yet, based on past history it would be a rolling out process.

I have been a nurse since I was 19. It is really tough at times. I have climbed the corporate ladder only to find that there are some things I would rather not know about my profession. I am a nurse. I don't want to hear about the money and using this machine instead of that machine which works much better because it costs less. I want to nurse. I can remember some of my classmates who stated they went into it for the money. They never made it. It takes dedication and true caring to endure in this field.

There is no single "plan" at present -- there are several different committees in Congress working on several different proposals. Eventually, the House will vote on a single, final bill compromised/agreed upon by the relevant House committees and the Senate will vote on a single, final bill compromised/agreed upon by the Senate committees involved. Then the House and Senate bills will have to be "marked up" (the differences worked out) into a final bill that would be sent to Pres. Obama, who will have the choice of signing it into law or vetoing it. We are a very long way from having "a" plan!

You don't know that yet- we'll all find out.
I was saying years ago that there was no nursing shortage, and people told me I was crazy. Now, a lot of people share my opinion.
We'll see.

My husband is working over in the USA now (he was lucky enough to get a job in health research in Jan and as he has a Masters got a non-immigrant visa) and my son and myself will be joining him in August (fingers crossed with the house sale)
I won't be able to work even though I have a job offer-at least not until one of us gets a Green card.

Obviously coming from a country that has a NHS that is failing many of it's staff and patients I'm interested to see the proposal for the USA.

What are the shortcomings, as you see it, to the NHS that you have lived under and worked in?

I think the best thing would be for you to look at some of my most recent posts.
To be honest I feel that there are a lot of people in the US that think we have this "free" health service which gives us exactly the same service quality (and pay and conditions if you are employed by them) as the "private" system in the US.
When I had my interview over there I lost count of the number of people over the 3 days that asked me about it. There I was with my mouth hanging open at how fab' this hospital was and they are asking me about our wonderful free system.

It is not wonderful, and if you work it isn't free-far from it.

Nursing is my passion and have been since a child. I have nurturing hands and like to make a difference in people lives. Nursing is the field to serve the community. I have worked with Nurses that do not have their heart in it at all and that is a shame. I have 20 years experience from Cna, pct, pca, unit clerk and phlebotomy. I have been struggling trying to get my degree as a nurse. I thought I was on the road to my degree but things change. I thought I had a chance with a Life Status Degree and that is not so. I will start towards my degree in January. Is there a program that you can suceed from a patient care technician to LPN. God Bless
