Lol, that was quite a broad statement. It's not exactly easy to seem compassionate when you're arguing the side that's often been called cruel and "evil," but the way I look at it is either way someone has the job, and the benefit could contribute to a lower cost of living, which benefits a much wider group than a single person.
Of course these unintended consequences could be interpreted as positive or negative, depending on the angle you look at it, and nothing I argue should be taken as to not feel compassion for these people, I just look at the glass half full, I suppose.
