OK, AIDS is racist. Beyond that and any other talk about racists and racism, what are black Americans doing that white Americans are not?

You have to look at statistics for this to work out. Blacks make up 13% of the population, not a lot at all. So if you look at it this way a relatively small number of those infected looks huge.

About 15 minutes ago there was a news segment regarding AIDS. They said that AIDS is the number ONE killer for black women between the ages of 25-34.
So sad.

It's been recently found that a portion of Africans and African Americans have a much higher susceptibility to HIV due to evolutionary adaption for malaria.

And the gene that protects many Europeans against bubonic plague and also HIV, as pointed out in Turd's previous thread on this.

It's called the DARC gene variant, I believe.

There have also been studies in populations who did not engage in high risk activities, and they still had a higher HIV infection rate than whites with the same behavior patterns.

These studies show us that it is not necessarily a "blacks are engaging in high risk behavior more than whites" issue. Hopefully, future HIV education will include efforts that address this.

oh gawd, that is just soooo devastating on many different levels.
not only do these women have to contend with their dx, but also have to contend w/their so's being unfaithful and gay/bisexual.
the betrayal they must feel, cannot be defined in mere words.
and in the height of their child-bearing yrs, to boot.
these women have been hit from every conceivable angle.
my heart genuinely breaks for them...
