Cleveland Clinic treats their nurses very poorly. Would NEVER work there again!

I want to know if these hospitals have Magnet Status- I don't think the Methodist Hospital in Houston is which is also on the list is magnet. Nurses contribute so much to them being #1 especially since we are the largest workforce a hostpial has to employ..
I feel a doctor is nothing without a good nurse..

Phooey, once again not working in a hospital on the list! Luckily I'm in the same state as a couple of them!

I've worked at the Mayo Clinic Rochester at St. Mary's Hospital for almost two years now and it's amazing.

Good pay, available overtime, and from what I've seen personally the manager staff is extremely excited about helping people move up through degrees, certifications, or anything else. Tuition reimbursement is available, lots of educational opportunities, and safe patient assignments.

The physicians on a whole are very willing to engage in discourse with nurses about patient treatment. It's a very equal atmosphere.

Oh, and we are Magnet.

Cleveland Clinic is a Magnet Hospital but treats it's nurses poorly.
University Hospitals of Cleveland is excellent and also a Magnet Hospital but not on the list; go figure...
I feel like the Magnet designation is a lot of paper compliance and committees anyway...not to be a downer; but....just my opinion.

I just want to know who made USN&WR such an expert on hospitals- I have never been able to discern thier evaluation criteria. I would love to see the ANA, AMA, and/or AHA do a comprehensive review of the nations hospitals and try to give an objective evaluation. From what I can tell the main purpose of this "Best Hospitals" list is to provide a vehicle for P.R. for the hospitals that made the list.

If I remember correctly, it's something about death rates, nursing care, safety in each specialty (neuro, cardiac, etc) and they're added up.

I work in one of those top ten hospitals. They pimp their rank left and right.

All three of the hospitals in the Duke University system are Magnet hospitals--a great system for nurses and patients.

I don't think Magnet is just bureaucratic posturing; here at least it seems to be a real commitment to excellent patient care and a pro-nursing environment.
