I find this article fascinating...the study argues that exogenous phytoestrogens somehow help stave off breast cancer. The source? 5 cups of coffee a day!? How about the 1000mg of caffeine or more? Not really sure the cardiology community would like this study lol.

Yeah, 5 cups seems like a lot, but when you consider that a cup of coffee only 6 oz, it's not so bad. My morning tumbler of coffee is technically three cups. Though I don't know if I could get in two more cups... I might be bouncing off the walls.

    Interesting article, none the less.

When my OB office gave out their standard 'What to do/What not to do during pregnancy' booklet at my first visit, their limit on caffeinated beverages was 2-3 per day. That sounded like a lot to me, but even the March of Dimes says 200mg or less of caffeine daily is generally considered to be okay during pregnancy. It sounds like the restrictions on caffeine are loosening a bit all-around.

On the original topic, are the same phytoestrogens found in decaf? If they are, then problem solved for people who absolutely can't have caffeine. 'Course, the cynic in me wonders if a study that promotes 5 cups of coffee per day isn't sponsored by some tooth-whitener company.

I know a few of my classmates have been waiting for a study like this to come out. They'll carry around a copy so it will be ready for the professors look of disapproval. :P

i wish the phytoestrogens were available in some other way. my mother and her brother both had breast ca. my mom had two different types concurrently. i'm caffeine sensitive and would rather drink swamp water than coffee. i'm a tea girl. i was tested after my mom's death and do not have
    the breast ca gene.

there are very few things i just cannot drink, and coffee is one. i wish it were available in pill form as well.
