Productivity

Hi

I am interested in finding out about productivity and how it is measured and how it relates to the bedside nurse.
If you could give me pointers on where to find this information I would really appreciate it. I have found it to be a convoluted process.
Thank you

Default Re: Productivity
I would talk to a finance representative at your organization, or take a nursing finance class. Our hospital uses a measure called hours per patient day (hppd), which allows so many hours of direct care to each patient in a 24 hour day. We use a benchmarking system that gives us a range of other hospitals' hppd levels by unit type, but it is difficult to find information on why these numbers are "right." Using our base hppd level, we have developed a matrix that shows for x unit census you need y number of staff.
