Help with salary calculation

How do you calculate nursing salaries? I thought that you would take the RN productive hours and multiply by the pay rate. Is this correct? Or do I have to put the FTEs in?

Default Re: Help with salary calculation
I applaud you for taking the initiative to learn this essential knowledge.

Nursing salaries are actually made up of all sorts of compensable factors... worked hours, education hours, benefit hours (vacation & sick time) differentials, bonuses, overtime... etc. etc. Hospitals are very creative in this regard. It becomes even more complex because you have to calculate OT based on total salary, not baseline.

The way you would calculate depends on the purpose of your calculation. For instance, if you are trying to devlop a labor budget you need to begin by analyzing the workload and your replacement factor to come up with your FTE requirement, determine staffing mix, establishing percentage of part time, full-time etc.... the very last thing you do is attach the dollars.

Feel free to PM me if I can provide any assistance.
