Average Nurse Manager Salaries?

by angieRN

Hello! I have unexpectedly (but very thankfully) been asked to interview for a nurse manager position. It is a 27 bed pediatric unit in a magnet hospital. Because I did not seek this out on my own, I have not truly ever considered what a reasonable salary would be. Any input on the situation would be appreciated. I realize specifics are inappropriate so ballparks and the general area would be great.

Thanks!

Angie,

I applied for a position that was similar to a Nurse Manager position and I too didn't know what would be a "fair" wage for such a position. I went to www.salary.com and put in my position title, my education, and my zip code and it gave me the average amount for that position. Nurse Manager's can make anywhere between 75,000 to 90,000 per year.

Hope this information helps. Good luck.

Thank you so much! I was thinking on the low end of that and salary.com was a great help even though it didn't have a peds specialty listed specifically.

Angie,

You are quite welcome! I was a little disappointed at first that the Hospital didn't offer more.......it was at the lower end. Just remember, don't sell yourself too short. You are responsible for your unit 24 hours per day. I will say that my Director is AWESOME......she doesn't expect me to put in LONG days.......although lately I have put in more hours in than I expected.
