Hello everyone,

Well I finally have some great news to report! First off I would like to say a hearty THANK YOU to all the posters who have wished me well throughout this ordeal of trying to become licensed.

I called the Georgia nursing board again this morning. I was told that my application had been sent BACK to an analyst and that they weren't sure why I was told last week it was in the final stages of processing. Then I was told to check back NEXT Friday. Even though I am sure at this point I had steam coming out my ears I managed to keep my voice civil and ask if there was a supervisor that I could speak with, as I was becoming frustrated with dealing with this and being put off week after week. The lady took my phone number down and told me she would forward it to the "analyst", but there was really nothing else she could tell me at this point. She then stated that they were "very busy" and had a lot of applications to process. WRONG thing to say to me. I told her that might be the case, BUT they had my application for three months now and that everyone in my class had been processed besides me and obviously something was wrong and that I had just about had it!

A few days ago I had managed to find the email to the Secretary of State Karen Handel's office. I had typed out an email to send to them but hadn't sent it in yet because I was trying to give the Professional Licensing Board every chance to do their job without filing a complaint on them. After this mornings conversation frankly I didn't give a rats patoot and figured I was sending the email whether it did any good or not....at this point what could it hurt?? I edited it slightly to add in this morning's phone call info and sent that bad boy on its way. You guys it wasn't an hour before I got a phone call from a young man identifying himself as a representative of the Secretary of State. I told him my entire long spiel and told him that I wasn't sure if I was sending the email to the right place or not.. and that I did it out of sheer desperation. He then replied that I had indeed contacted the right place and that he believed he would be able to help me. He told me he would be back in contact with me later in the day. I told him I was about to leave and made sure he had my cell number in case I wasn't here. OMG within 10 minutes my cell phone was ringing. I answer and it is this young man again... he tells me, "your license are now issued, you can go online to view them, and you will have your pocket card within 10 days time".... I am about to dissolve in tears as I repeatedly thank him...he states, "he was just doing his job"... He then tells me, "I would like to apologize to you because this is not the way we usually do business". This young man accomplished in TEN MINUTES what I have not been able to do in THREE MONTHS!!!!

I will say one thing... if this happens to me after I finish RN school... I will certainly NOT wait this long again. I now know WHO to contact to get the job done and will not hesitate to do so!

I hope everyone has a great afternoon! Now to get busy and find myself a job

Hi Pegasus65,
I am so happy for you!!!!!!!!!! I knew it would work out in the end, and I am so impressed that you stood up for yourself! I know the enormous relief you must feel, and I wish you the absolute best in your career as a nurse! I hugged the security officer that made my new badge as a nurse, and was so grateful that I had the stress of waiting behind me...you will, too!

Thanks you guys!

I am so glad it is over with! I will never understand what caused all of this hold up to begin with. That DUI was SOOOO old. Now if I can manage to find a job. I am going back to school in January to finish my RN. The trick is to find something that will allow that. I know I am definitely NOT a "spring chicken" anymore, but reading some of the posts on here have given me hope that it can be done. Some of these folks are older than me and if they can do it so can I! It might be one class at a time, but I am going to "keep on keeping on"..

Congrats on your new job jelc 43 and Lovenox....maybe you should see if there is someone you could contact that might possibly be able to bypass all the red tape. I have said a blessing numerous times for that "faceless" voice on the phone that sounded younger than MY son. I will never forget it It restored my faith that there ARE still people out there who will take the time to help you.

Have a great day!

Pegasus65,
I was wondering how you found the email address of Karen Handel? I have another classmate that has been waiting for a decision 6 weeks about a car accident that was her fault.
Thanks!

Working thorugh any bureacratic system can be a nightmare at times. Contacting G eorgia Secretary of State since they oversee licensing bords in GA smart move. You gave the system enough time to do its job...3 months; Contacting your local state representative when an issue reaches this miletone also helpful.

Thanks for keeping us updated and getting that license. Hope your job hunt is easier. Best wishes moving forward for RN degree too.

Pegasus,
Have you received your license yet? I am in a similar situation with GA LPN Board. I've secured employment but I'm afraid I'll loose it if it takes too long.

My "test mates" received their licenses 3 days ago. I was prepared for this to take longer but it would put me at ease to have a sense of how much longer. Mine is a misdemeanor from 17 years ago. Do you think that nagging the office was helpful? It is so infuriating getting the standard answer that "it's in legal and legal services does not provide a timeline for processing".

Anyway, just curious how things worked out for you. Overall it seems like for folks in our situation, it has taken 3-4 extra weeks to process.

Let me know if you have a minute, thanks.

Nevermind Pegasus, I just read the thread more thoroughly and see that you received it. Good for you! I will heed the lessons you learned and will start being the "squeaky wheel" next week.

Thanks for your post, it was good to see your result.
