Please...quick question! Need someone's experience!!

Nurses Criminal

Published

Hi, I have a quick question!

Ok, so I explained my history regarding my misdemeanor in my previous post. However, I am graduating in two short months. I am sort of FREAKING out over getting a job. Everyone in my class is announcing employment! I know it is going to be VERY difficult with a misdemeanor. Also, I am aware of the bumpy road with the BON too. So....people with a misdemeanor...did you start applying to jobs prior to graduation/licensing? Did you wait until you had the license to show..."I was approved!"

I'm in internship on a floor I think would be a great learning experience! They need nurses!!!!!

Thank you soooo much in advance!

I wouldn't wait to apply. I don't see why you should? I actually was on probation at the time of my graduation and I applied before I graduated. I was hired and worked at a graduate nurse until I could take NCLEX.

Go for it!

Apply!!! With my first nursing job my managers never knew I had a misdemeanor. Only HR knew. As long as your misdemeanor wasn't something violent and they facility doesn't have a policy against the type of conviction then you should be just fine!!

If anyone asks you about it, just be up front and honest. If you try to hide it then it doesn't look so good.

I got a DUI 5 years ago. When anyone asks me about I am honest. I'm not proud of it, but I have learned from my mistakes and will never make that same mistake again.

I don't know which state you are in so I only have experience with CA BRN. They took forever to process my application. I got my test date about 2 months later than all my classmates. I called to get them to forward my application to enforcement because the licensing department was holding it. I hear the enforcement takes a month to two to review your application and another month before the licensing finally approves your application. So definitely expect a delay in the process. I was able to expedite my application by calling in and making sure my application was attended to and I personally flew to the BRN to talk to them in person. I believe that helped me a lot.
