Are misdemeanors a big deal in Georgia??

Nurses Criminal

Published

I must say I have never been scared that I would have a hard time getting my license until after reading posts in this forum. I was found guilty of misdemeanor affray (fighting) two years ago and had two other misdemeanors dismissed concerning the same incident: criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. The judge ordered me to pay $200 and told me that I should be fine when it comes to nursing because I was not put on probation. I've talked to all my faculty and all don't seem to think I should have a hard time obtaining a license. The charges were on my background when I first entered nursing school and have not kept me from any clinical area, but I know the BON is more strict than hospitals when it comes to obtaining a license. I was just wondering if anybody had ever been kept from getting their license because of a misdemeanor charge in Georgia. I also want to say that I do know all cases are evaluated on an indivdual basis.

It took me about 9 months to get a license in GA. My last conviction was 15 years ago and my first was 30 years ago. It really ****** me off that the school did not give me a heads up. Looking on the bright side, I got to know my state representative and senator by their first names! It did not help that some of my convictions did not show up on my back-ground check: perhaps I confessed to things that never happened? Anyhoo, misdemeanors DO count. The schools SHOULD prepare their students, but they don't. It's better to be honest than dishonest.

I wish you the best of luck but be prepared to wait.......... and wait........... and wait

BTW my convictions were for DUI and drag racing. The stories I could tell.............
