Nurses Criminal

Published

I just registered for the nclex exam and i have three juvenille misdemeanors... Battery, disorderly conduct, and petit theft? Has anyone been approved with this or been denied?

hi, im sure you have heard and read this many times......each case is evaluated by your individual board of nursing. i am speaking from experience, i was just recently approved to sit for my nclex which i took on friday the 19th, got my results today and passed!! i was very worried that i would not be approved to sit and test. i had battery and d.u.i. my criminal history is from 1996-2001. this was a time when i had quite a drinking problem. i have not had any arrests since the 2001 d.u.i. i had to prove my case to the board of nursing that i had changed. i know it is very frustrating to have everyone say the same thing about case by case basis. i heard that a million times also, but there is no true way of knowing until the board sees your court paperwork and an essay explaining what led to your behavior.this is a good thing that they do it that way. if they saw criminal records and never lookk at circumstances surrounding the arrests, and got peoples sides of their stories, then anyone with anything on thier record might automatically be denied. get this process started early. i graduated december 17th, 2009. i was just now approved by the bon on march 15th. it can be a long frustrating process, as the boards main concern is the safety of the public! understandably so! im sure you will come out on the good end of the stick. have faith and confidence, thats what got me through these three months of waiting. good luck!

hey..

well from my experience.. to register for the nclex i was advised to write a letter of the event and regrets and so fourth..a few weeks later i got my packet to register...that was my initial time testing..which i failed back in november 2008...i finally retested in november 2009..(yes it took me a year idk why either)but anyways..i passed found out in jan.it took weeks for my results through enforcement..so now im just waiting for the license to get approved so i can mail that 120 for licensure (im in california)..my analyst recently requested the whole case report..which i sent 2 weeks ago im very optimistic i will be approved..i have 1 prior from 5 years ago for a bad check..i met all my obligations and rehabilitation..the board didnt give me a hard time to sit for the exam initially..keep in mind she slipped and said i just need the mandatory certified documents to complete your file..that right there..just allowed me to stay calm and look for jobs..one more thing.."the board requested the documents even when i failed..before i got my results that made me think i passed back in 08..so when i hear people say the board isnt gonna waste time trying to complete your file when you nclex thats very untrue!! good luck to all with criminal history..i wish yu all well and when i hear from the board hopefully this week i might get that letter ill be sure to let you know~~

Hi I was just wondering if you ever received your license and did the boards requested more information? Thanks

I am motivated with knowing others have successful obtained their license. convicted of a felony 14 years ago and that is the only conviction I have "Substanial Battery. Did 2 years probation and 90 days house arrest in my home. I am attending school to become a LPN in Milwaukee, WI. I would like to relocate to Atlanta GA, soon after, but I notice from other websites are so. Does anyone know the rules in Ga to obtain your LPN license?

did you have to get a lawyer for your situation?

if you received your att then yes you were approved. If not you will receive a letter in the mail stating your application was denied for this or that reason.

You can still get approved get your ATT info, take NCLEX and pass and still be denied of a nursing license.

Trust me I know, I have 2 past dui's misdeameanors from 2000 and one from 2008. After passing NCLEX, I just received the denial letter this past April. I am in the appeals hearing process now. :(

I had misdemeanor check convictions from 2003. I not only got my FL license, I got my SC license by endorsement as well!

I interviewed for a LTC/acute/subacute SNF position in Jax a bit over a week ago. I have been tentatively offered the position. I did the fingerprinting for the background check last Thurs and I am waiting to be called in for the drug test. I am SO ready to get started!

It sounds as though most are successful in getting the Board of Nursing to grant licenses. I went in front of the board yesterday. I have was arrested three times (all three buying stolen property). I was fortunate enough to participate in a pretrial program each time. So, basically, I paid restitution and competed the terms of the program and the charges were dropped. I have had multiple background checks performed and never an issue.

I disclosed this information to the board in good faith. One lady asked if disclosed the information to my school. I said I was not asked about my criminal history. During orientation, we were told that everyone was required to undergo a national background check and if there are convictions, we may not be placed in a clinical setting. I did not worry about because I knew it would come back clean, which it did.

She lectured me for about five minutes about ethical conduct. She said I should have disclosed the information regardless of whether or not I was asked on my school application. Sorry...I don't divulge information that is not being asked of me.

She granted me a probationary license for three years...I cannot work in Peds, Home Helath, or hospice. I have a job lined up. I spoke with HR who said it should be okay because I will be working Med/Surg and was quite surprised by the outcome. On my employment application, it asked if I had ever been convicted of a crime, which I have not. My background check came back clean with them.

What was more interesting is that there were multiple people in front of me who were granted a license free and clear with multiple assault charges. They also were never asked if they disclosed in on their school application. I am debating whether or not to get an attorney about this. She made her decision based upon my response on the school application that doesn't exist. But then I wonder if it is wise to simply not rock the boat.

I was approved. I was charged with three felonies in 2007...they were later dropped and I was convicted of two misdemeanors instead. I just had to wait a few extra weeks for the board to approve my criminal explanation. I was scared to death during the whole process but looking back the wait wasnt that bad.

May I ask what you were convicted of? I just applied... I have 4 convictions from over 10 years ago. An under the influence, DUI, driving on a suspended license, and felony recieving stolen property, hit and run that was dismissed (they hit me and I ran two houses down to get my sister, came back and police were there already). I got all my cases expunged and the felony was dropped to a misdermeaner. I am so worried. I have not been in trouble since, Im involved in church, married with kids.
