DUI non conviction question

Nurses Criminal

Published

Hello,

I am very impressed with the knowledge and overall helpful attitude of this forum. I hate to ask a question that has been ask before but I could not find great info in my searches.

I was accepted to a nursing program with plans to start this fall. I am deciding if it is worth the risk when I apply to take the NCLEX. I have been arrested twice and charged with DUI each time. I was not convicted on either, but both were changed to reckless driving.

I know I will have to report these but can I be barred for a non conviction? Is it worth going through school and then being shot down? I really appreciate any response.

Also, what is the wording when I apply to the board - have you ever been convicted or more along the lines of have you ever been charged?

It depends on your state. I'm licensed in two states. One only asks about felony convictions. The other asks about any arrests, charges, convictions, drug or alcohol treatment, everything. Even so, it is unlikely you would be denied based on those charges. But they may require you to be monitored for a period of time after you graduate. I encourage you to call your BON and ask, because there is quite a variance between states.

I moved your thread t for the best response. This is a moderated forum and you may see a slight delay in posts. I wish you the best.

Like earth mama said depends on your state BON. I got DWI on vacay, self reported did two years wit monitoring Texas style. If no felony convicton, misderminor conviction, you are in a lot better shape. you may still be asked to be monitored. BON's job is to protect the people of that state from nurse's who abuse and lots more. Peace and good luck
