Diversion in California-please help!

Nurses Criminal

I need help!

I received a letter from the brn In California where I am licensed recently. It basically stated that they received a report regarding violation of the nurse practice act. Long story short, I got into a fight with my husband while at home and I slapped him. I'd been drinking that day and he was upset that I was drinking mid day. My son called the cops and I was arrested and spent the night in jail. My charges were dropped down to a misdemeanor for disturbing the peace. My father had recently passed suddenly and my husband was not happy that I was drinking to cope with my loss. I never drink and this situation has put me in a spot where I don't know whether to do diversion to avoid severe consequences by the brn or allow the brn to do an investigation and get a lawyer to fight it. Any advice would help. Today I called Maximus(the diversion program to sign up with it), but some coworkers and my manager who knows my work ethic and knows this was an isolated incident tell me to lawyer up and not do diversion. Any advice or personal experiences would be appreciated the sooner the better.

I have zero experience with this....but I wouldn't put diversion on my history for that. I'd talk to a lawyer first.

This. Do not sign up for a diversion program until you talk to an attorney. Do not agree to anything the BRN has to offer until you talk to an attorney...and yes, since you do have misdemeanor charges that may possibly result in conviction(s), you WILL have to eventually address this with the BRN.

Best of luck.
