Denied R.N. License after NCLEX

Nurses Criminal

Published

I was so overjoyed to had passed my NCLEX, but now a state is denying me a license because I was on probation as a LVN in another state. Do I have to forget about nursing, or take the exam again in a less-stringent state? The only choices I ever see on any state board website are; Recipicality and Licensure by Examination

One of the questions on application to take Nclex, is related to prior lie. Displinary actions in most state BONs....

It has been a while since I applied for a new license but don't they ask if you have had any disciplinary issues with any other licenses?

Were you denied a license for non-disclosure or are they simply saying that they have to investigate your background?

If you were denied the RN license in your state, you're going to be denied the license anywhere else. There is no such thing as a "less stringent state." And think about this: Would you want to be cared for/family be cared for by a nurse who skirted around licensure problems by going somewhere "less stringent."

You don't say why you were on probation as an LVN, and I don't need to know; it's none of my business. If the reason you were on probation is fixable, then fix it. Then you can write a letter to the board stating what you've done and argue your case for being granted your license as an RN.

My probation as a LVN should be ending in a 3 months. I did what my old Board asked of me.

Again I ask; would I need to take the NCLEX in another State, can I use my results for another State, or am I stuck with whatever this State's RN Board says?

To answer your first question, no you do not have to retake the NCLEX, ever.

You shouldn't have to retake the NCLEX. However, as OCNRN63 mentioned, you will likely not be allowed to apply for licensure in another state as long as your LPN license remains in probation.

Your best source of information is going to be the board of nursing in the state in which you have your LPN license.

I must be missing something...how can my best source of info be from a state I'm not interested in working in?

How do I use my NCLEX results in another state if I can't use reciprocity ?

As you were denied licensure because the BON in another state placed your LPN license on probation, you have to address this issue with them. Until you take of this and clear your LPN license, I doubt any state is going to license you.

What states don't ask me about a previous license?

None. All states want to know about previous issues with licenses. I would wait until you probation is up on your LPN license - then contact the BON from the state you took the NCLEX in. A lawyer may be helpful with this process.
