Clinical background check...

Nurses Criminal

Published

Hello all, I am a pre nursing student in Ga finishing up pre-reqs to apply for LPN school next semester. My question is about the background checks conducted for entry to the program as well as clinical sites. I recently got charged with a misdemeanor of reckless conduct and have since been hindered from being hired as a CNA whereas I had no problem before. These charges are still pending but I would like to know if this will prevent me from being selected into the program or being able to complete the clinical portion of my studies???

Maybe. Check with the school and or board of nursing.

Looks like it might, based on your new inability to get a CNA job. I would definitely check with the school. I hope this all resolves in a positive manner for you. And be careful, some schools have been known to allow a person to attend, then when the time comes, the individual can not get a nursing license. This is something you should try to clear up before you make any decisions.

Thank you so much ladies! I was hoping I could get it resolved or dismissed, but I don't even have a court date yet.

Hope is not a plan. Make one. Get help to do it if you have to, but don't leave yourself in the position of being caught flatfooted.

Also, understand that even if the school accepts you ... that is no guarantee that a particular clinical facility might not. Each clinical facility is entitled to make up their own minds whether or not they accept a particular student or not.

Check on your state's board of nursing website. I believe where I live in Massachusetts it said to not apply if you have current/open charges against you. Also check with your school. It is not out of the question that you wouldn't be hired as a CNA either, you just need to find a facility who might take you. Good luck, and get a lawyer!!
