Can I get a RN license with 2 misdemeanors?

Nurses Criminal

I have two misdemeanors: juvenile retail fraud (2003) and larceny under $200 (2008). Both have been expunged but I still am required to report these to Michigan BON. I am so worried about graduating in June and not being allowed to sit for boards. Has anyone been in this type of situation? Any success or failure stories? I am prepared to state my case in front of the BON and I have beefed up my resume but that still doesn't shine a light on 2 theft misdemeanors. I would just like to get an idea of what I am up against. Thank you.

It is important that you approach this head-on, like you would any other large problem. And based upon your timeline, sooner the better.

The Michigan Board of Nursing is ultimately going to be the arbiter of your license. It behooves you to contact them directly and find out if your history will be a problem. If it is, you need to start working on solutions. Which may include seeking assistance from an administrative attorney who works in the state of Michigan and is familiar with the Michigan Board of Nursing.

There are many mitigating factors considering criminal history. What the state of Michigan considers mitigating, you can only learn from them--or from an administrative attorney in the Michigan area.

Congratulations on nearly completing your degree, and making the journey to joining a fantastic career with many rewards. I recommend that you seek answers soon. If not yourself, with an attorney. Do not hide from it. Only you will look out for you. And good luck!
