Willing to move ANYWHERE - best place (site or other) to job search?

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I have not yet graduated but with my program I can take my NCLEX which I will do in April so when I graduate in May I will be ready to move anywhere for a job.

I have seen that Minot, ND is hiring like crazy now but if I want to do my own search what should I use? I want to find my own random places rather than being stuck in ND. I remember hearing once that a super small sleepy town on the coast in WA was hiring new grads because no one wanted to move there as there was nothing to do. Well heck I would move to a po dunk town in WA over any town in ND.

So I want to be able to find this stuff but obviously I can't search by city as that IS the wild card.

I obviously have not started my Job Search yet so any advice would be helpful.

You are free. What weather do you like? What kind of people do you like? What are your hobbies. I would start equating those things with locales. Do you want a place to foster your inner self/spirituality? Do you want to go where the money is? Do you want to go where you will have the best medical experience (John Hopkins, Mayo....anywhere with those guys)..or.....is it more important that you have a community that matches your inner goals rather than the professional ones. Indian reservation hospitals, all over the Southwest, need you. Vetrans Hospitals all over need you (wish I would've known that they have the best benefits in the world when I started my first job!). I too would pick WA over ND any day! Same kind of outlying folk, but WA much more aware and spiritually connected than ND for sure! Just don't go to Arkansaws (or however ya spell it)....unless you want to delve into very hard day to day moral dilemmas. Follow your bliss. Nursing will get you everywhere you want to be. And if you choose from anything else than what YOUR goals are.....you will burn out like, well, a burnt out nurse. I wish I hadn't had to think about others' best interest within my family when I started. For you, the skies the limit.

Specializes in LTC, Psych, M/S.

I am in one of those 'small sleepy towns' similar to ND ( in Wyo)....my hospital has hired several new grads from other states over the past couple years who came here simply b/c they couldn't find a job in their own locale. Wyo hospitals would be worth looking into but many towns in this state (like ND) it can be difficult to find housing.

I am definitely taking NGG's advice.Always knew it but it is always nice to hear positive reinforcement from a peer

Just so you are aware I do know what I want but I know I will not get it. I moved to Puerto Rico from San Francisco for nursing school. Ideally I would like to go back to the Bay Area but I know I will not get a job there. My friends have been looking for so long without any bites.

I wouldn't even mind staying an extra year here on the island but I don't speak Spanish. My program is in English and almost everyone on the island is bilingual but you really do need Spanish to work here.

And although I wouldn't like it I think I would rather go to Arkansas than North Dakota. I really hate the cold and I have been living on an island that has a temperature between 82 and 89 all year long. Today January 9th I went to the beach and went swimming in the 84 degree ocean. But really I will move ANYWHERE I just need to find out about these places.

Oh no I was not planning to go back to San Francisco. I had a friend looking for a year until he gave up and started looking in LA and got a job there.

That is crazy. You applied for a job in Minot and they rejected you? Yeah I guess everyone is reading these threads. I heard a lot of different boarder towns in TX are hiring.

I have a plan but I have to see if it pans out.

By the way where in the Bay Area are you doing your BSN?

yea minot said "while you have not been selected for this position. your application is being further reviewed for consideration of other positions." in other words thanks but no thanks. it said that in all ten positions i applied to. i heard about the border town in texas and i am looking into that. i would actually prefer to work there because i speak spanish. im doing my bsn at sf state.

sf state, that is awesome. i didn't even apply there because it was so competitive. 1,500 applicants and if you had below a 3.9 in your 1st bachelors you could pretty much forget about trying to get in.

i heard there are a few border towns in tx but i am not paying a a lot of attention to tx because i am hoping that something else will pan out. i'll know in april. if my plan doesn't work out then i will have to look into tx and other places. i'll scratch minot off the list, not that i would have wanted to go there anyway.
