Where are all of the jobs hiding?

Hello,

I recently passed the nclex and I've been job searching for about 2-3 weeks now and no responses at all. I'm so discouraged I worked my behind off in an advanced Rn program and most job ads want previous experience. I have past experience of about 6 years in the medical field and it still isn't good enough. Anyone else having the same problem???

Wow that's insane I never in a million years would have thought finding a nursing job would be so difficult. It just seems unreal not to mention the fact that every position requires experience.

This is pretty common every where.If you read the threads on here people are talking about being out of school for over a year and still no job. Nursing Jobs are tough to come by. There are changes happening in my workplace and if I have to look for a job I am sunk.

Unfortunately, this seems to be the rule rather than the exception. If your school pounded it into your head that there was a nursing shortage, they lied. It makes me sad to hear of new grads coming out of school all fresh-faced and ready to go and then realize that facilities are not beating down their door begging to hire them. And then I get mad that this "nursing shortage myth" is still out there in full force!

I realize everyone has pretty much said what I am about to say but yes I am in the same position! As are many of my classmates. I graduated May 2013 and passed the NCLEX in September. I have been applying to anything and everything that I can since November. I'm considering applying to a couple nursing homes around me but I've heard so much stigma surrounding that since I'm a new grad. I'm so worried! I do not know who or where to turn. My biggest fear now is if I do get a call about a job am I going to even be able to answer any questions pertaining to nursing? I feel so out of touch and I'm afraid I'm going to forget all the skills I learned. :unsure: The only thing that has kept me going is positivity. So I say to the rest of the new grad RNs out there... Good Luck and I hope we all find what we're looking for.

Your best bet is to get a job wherever you can and then find ways to make yourself more desirable because you have a job. In fact, just having a job may make you more desirable. Nursing home? Time management, assessments, long-term chronic conditions, communication, delegation, caring for the patient as a whole instead of just a number, etc.

My manager is looking for staff. Really looking!

Are you guys willing to relocate? Most large, inner city teaching hospitals are looking for staff. There are a lot of reasons NOT to want to work in some of the marginal neighborhoods these facilities are located in, but it's great experience.

If you really really want a nursing job, either take SNFs or Home health or move ( I swear I keep posting this because its true) to a state that no one wants to move to, (i.e) Alaska, Wyoming, Iowa, Kansas, Idaho. For those who are from there no offense meant here. I'm from Cali I'm just stating where the Nursing Jobs are available.

Nurses don't want to work in Iowa because the pay sucks. Try having graduated in May 2012 and passed NCLEX in August 2012 and still no nursing job nearly 2 years later other than as a volunteer. I am extremely discouraged but thanking God that I still have my first career job in accounting but my student loans are affordable with a nurses salary. They are coming off of deferment soon so I may need to get a 2nd job in retail to begin making the payments. Working full time and part time will further reduce the time I have to look for a nursing job and complete the education required to renew my (so far) useless license.

I am going to be making a point to go on the pre nursing student threads and warn them that the nursing shortage is a lie and then tell them to go to the nursing Job Search threads to show the struggles that new grads are having.
