Nursing student jobs

Is it possible to find work in a hospital or clinic with no experience (I've worked in the clerical field...but no medical/hospital experience)? I'm starting nursing school next week and I'd love to have a part-time evening job in a hospital. Any ideas? Anyone working part-time and going to nursing school?

After your first clinical semester you should be able to get a job as a CNA/PCA. Most times the nurses in the floor will teach you as you work and you will make good network connections for a nursing job when you graduate.

BostonFNP, ah thanks! Good to hear! I'm even thinking about calling around to some hospital HR offices this week to see what they can tell me. From what I understand, if I can work in a hospital, it'll be easier for me to find work in one once I graduate nursing school.

Usually that is the case!
I have heard a few cases where it didn't help and actually hurt employment: if you are a person who doesn't have positive relationships with management when working, is tardy or calls out sick a lot, or if you think you can't make a solid commitment, then it may not be the best idea.
Outside of that, it normally helps people get both experience and a job at the end.

Ah, I had not thought of that. I'm 47 now and I've always been known for my perfect attendance with no tardy's (or I called in if I had car trouble but I still came in). There is one thing I've been curious about in the hospital field...how much information can one hospital (employer) tell another hospital (employer)? I've been a hiring manager in the clerical field and in a non-medical, non-hospital field, you can not legally tell another business the reason the job ended (especially if you fired the person). All you can give out is the job title, start date and end date and a few details about the job description. Can a hospital legally tell another hospital you were fired or that you had attendance/tardy issues?

It will definitely help, a lot of managers like to hire someone they already know and trust
