NCLEX RN vs JOB

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I just received a call from one of the facilities I applied like 2 months ago for a Resident Care Aide position, and they want to schedule me for an interview, and with my experience after you passed the interview they would let you get in the facility right away.. But since I am about to take NCLEX RN this September, I am kind of confused whether to take the oppurtunity and work at the same time, I am just a bit worried that it will be just few weeks before my exam and that I might not have time to review then. I am really confused if I should return the call and get myself in or decline because it's really hard to find a job in a healthcare field. I don't know what to say if ever I return the call and what to say at the interview regarding my goal to have my RN license. I badly need your advice on this situation. Please let me know what is your opinion. Thanks a lot!

Studying for NCLEX is a full time job. However, most healthcare facilities understand that you need to pass your boards! I would call them, tell them what you are doing and accept the position starting the day after NCLEX. Surely if they want you, they can wait that long! I had the same thing happen, and ended up accepting a tech job but told them I couldn't start until after my test. They hired me and that paycheck was a fantastic security blanket while I searched for my first RN job.

Specializes in Emergency.

Studying for the nclex is not a full time job. Couple of hours a day, max. I honestly don't understand the stressing out over the exam. I thought it was the easiest test in nursing school.

You are one of the lucky ones. either photographic memory, the best test taking strategy of us all, or just plain genius! For most of us, the NCLEX was the most difficult test we ever had to take. Personally, I studied between 6 and 9 hours a day 6 days a week for 5 weeks and still didn't feel ready. I passed, but that test kicked my butt and most of my classmates felt the same way. I am happy for you that you found it so easy! But you are among the minority. Studying for it for most of us is a full time job, and I would never want to tell any new grad that it's easy then hear later that they failed because they believed me.
