Interviews, References, and Surveys! OH MY!

Nurses Job Hunt

Hey all - I need to vent. Between job struggles and planning a wedding, I am beat!

A little background: While in school I worked at a hospital as a tech for close to year, because of the economy they couldn't hire any new grads so when I graduated I took a job in private duty. While it is easy, I want to kill myself from shear boredom. I need something else. I have been applying everywhere, had a few in interviews but no job offers.

Finally, I had an interview last Monday on a unit in the hospital I worked at during school. The NM was amazing, said I would be a good fit and that my chances were "very good" but HR had to contact my references first. They do an online survey for their references, so you input their information and they respond through a survey via e-mail. When they are all finished it complies the answers and HR can view them. I filled everything out Wednesday. I find out Thursday that the e-mail for 2/3 of my references are wrong. My previous manager left her job suddenly, my preceptor gave me the wrong e-mail. No problem, you can edit the e-mails. Both were done by Friday.

My last reference (who is notoriously slow) still hadn't done the survey by Sunday night so I sent an e-mail gently urging her to do it. She had been trying but I apparently put the wrong date in for when we started working together. I was so excited I must have missed the mistake. She says she has contacted someone and no one has responded so I went ahead and made a new reference so she could get it done. (You cannot edit any information except the e-mails.) This time I AGAIN put the wrong date. An honest mistake this time though. So I make up ANOTHER reference. I e-mailed the company that runs the surveys and there is no way to delete the incorrect references. I sent an e-mail informing HR what was going on but my reference still hasn't filled out the survey. It will be a week tomorrow since they asked for my references.

I so worried all of this is going to hurt me in getting this job. I want it so bad. And to top it all off, if I don't get the job and I need to use my reference again I am scared she is just going to say, "no thanks - not after last time!"

Alright, well all I can do now is wait and hope I hear something by the end the week. The NM said she would be making a decision by then. I hope it's good news!

At least I took something from all this, DOUBLE CHECK, TRIPLE CHECK!

Thanks for reading! :D

I can really relate to this post, I just went through the same sort of crap. I could just scream, and you know what bugs me the most? all these legions of HR people sitting on their butts pouring out all this junk are sucking up resource $$"S that should be PAYING FOR MORE NURSES

nevermind. it does no good to fret about it. all this middle management crap came on board decades ago when things were better, now we may never be rid of it all.

My reference still hasn't done the survey and I still haven't heard anything regarding the job. I am not freaking out YET though. She said end of the week! :)
