Massive massive surplus of new RNs in CO. Supposedly there is a surplus of experienced RNs too.

No one here has mentioned the DC metro area. I have found it to be one of the areas in the Eastern coast with a decent amount of nursing openings. Many of the hospitals around here are unionized which drives the salaries up.

Would they hire new grad nurses? I am graduating next year. DC isn't too far from NYC so me and hubby can still visit often, too see our families...

Yes many of our hospitals still have new grad residency programs. In fact, many new grad RN's have relocated from other parts of the country to find work here.

Wow!! That is very refreshing to hear! I have a old friend that graduated last year, she lives in the DMV area and she was kinda worried about the job market but John Hopkins Hospital gave her an offer in a month. I was so happy for her. I haven't spoken to her in a while, though. But I am really happy you gave this information, I really hope I have luck next year when I apply to hospitals in DC. The job market here in NYC is weird. Alot of people say they are jobs here avaialble but you just have to know "someone" to get your foot in the door. I don't know anyone, so pretty much luck here is very minimal. Oh, one more question, which hospitals would you suggest that have the new grad residency programs? Does it matter if you have an ADN or you have to have a BSN? Thanks a bunch,

Anyone have any up to date info re the nursing shortage?
Currently in NC-UK trained nurse with 23 yrs exp and BSN-have had a job offer since 2007 but caught in Green Card retrogression. My husband is on his second 3 yr work visa and applying for Grren card (different category to me as he has a Masters degree) but his Green card category was cuurent until this month when the wait suddenly jumped to 3 yrs.
Hoping this will change with the beginning of the new fiscal year but in the meantime looking for jobs that require a BSN and experience that might qualify for a 3 yr work visa so I can get working again.

Basing "shortage" on how many ads you see is faulty.

Why didn't you just say that?
By the way, it's appropriate to revive a thread in a forum if you're asking for updated info.
