What to do?

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

So I graduated in August with my associates and have been looking for a job ever since! I really want a hospital job but no such luck! I recently got offered a position at a rehabilitation center on the vent unit but it's only 4 days every 2 weeks with the possibility of extra hours! Do I take the first job offered?

Today I got a call to interview at a hospital on a med surg unit:-). Now I don't know!

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

Personally, I'd take what I could get for now, and keep applying elsewhere. Hopefully the med/surg thing will work out, but nothing says you can't do both. I assume when I graduate in May I'll be working per diem, and I expect to be applying for more and more positions, so that I have a few jobs to make sure I have enough hours to have a decent income. Where I am, in the San Francisco Bay Area, we have one of the most competitive markets in the country, so I'll take what willing to pay me something for now. I'd say to take the vent unit position and keep looking elsewhere.

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency, Trauma.

Which position gives you the best foundation to your short and long term career goal?

Find out the pluses and minuses; and choose the best position that fits YOU after reflecting interviewing process of both jobs.

OTOH, if you have the vent position, take it; sounds like a wonderful job with LOTS of experience, and a pretty good schedule.

Best wishes!
