Proper etiquette for filling out applications on site

Hello everyone,

I am a new grad looking for that first job, like so so many of us. Although I am applying at lots of acute care hospitals, the reality is that I am much more likely to get hired into long term care (ADN, no RN experience).

Most of the long terms and skilled nursing facilities in my area do not have websites and instead warrant a visit in person to fill out an application.

Is there certain etiquette that should be maintained when coming in to apply?

-Dress?

-Specific time to come in?

-Should I call first to let them know I am looking to apply?

-Asking for DON/ manager to personally hand in application?

I went to 2 places today. Put on some black slacks, flats, a modest 3/4 sleeve button up, hair simple, makeup simple. Not what I would wear to an interview, but appropriate business attire.

Both places are hiring RNs, but neither one allowed me to meet with the DON ((both in family meetings)). I figured it didn't hurt to ask. I came in around 2 to the 1st and 2:30 to the 2nd.

Any tips/advice for going in-person would be greatly appreciated :)

What you're doing is fine. I got my first nursing job going in person from LTC to LTC. The DON interviewed me on the spot when I walked in and I got the job right there and then. It's been 1.5 years I've been with them. Keep it up, be persistent, you get lucky here and there.

I went to another 1 today that was hiring, filled out an application, the DON was too busy to speak with me, but I was courteous and will be calling her soon to let her know i'm still interested.

It does make me feel good to get dressed nice and go fill out applications in person. The online ones make me feel less productive lol
