Boston Medical Center New Grad Critical Care Residency 2017/2018 - page 2
Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone else has applied to this residency or if anyone has completed the residency. I have seen the other posts about the other new grad programs at BMC, but I... Read More
Jan 6So I'm thinking it might not be the first week in February? Selfishly trying to plan a quick little trip, but would obviously take a job over that!!
Jan 6Does anyone know anything about BMC like pay, benefits, parking, literally anything at all about how the program is run? I've been dying to find out any information!

The last residency they posted was a med/surg one in the fall and the description was a bit more detailed...maybe it's similar! They had 4 weeks of rotating through different units it looked like. After that month of precepting and classroom time, they were assigned a permanent unit to work on. It was full time and benefitted. Since BMC is unionized, I'd assume it's the same pay as other Boston hospitals because they aim to stay competitive with each other's pay.
When is your interview?? I'm getting nervous! haha
Jan 9I had it yesterday! It wasn't what I was expecting, but nurses are adaptable hahah. So it seems the program is 6 months. I was so nervous when she was explaining it I missed half of it! Good luck at yours!!
Jan 9I had mine yesterday - 8 am!! I caught that point and that we spend the first 2 weeks in an ICU to 'get our feet wet' before receiving a permanent hire unit and starting the classes. Also no vacation for 6 months I remember her specifically saying unfortunately haha.
Good luck to you, I'm hoping we hear back early next week but she said between 2-3 weeks....
Jan 9I know I was like that's the whole summer depending on when we start! I'm not sure if we aren't guaranteed a job until 2 weeks in or just a unit? So nerve wracking! Also if it starts the 5th that's a short turn around for us to find out and then for it to start so I hope it's earlier!
I'm also curious as to what the hours are like and if it's only 36 do we only go 3 times a week? And do we work when our preceptor works? I should've asked yesterday!
Jan 9Yeah I'm not sure, I'd guess it's precepted time supplemented by classroom - idk how they split it though...i don't think they knew either because I asked for a sort of breakdown but was given general info. And the 2 week is just in an ICU and then after those two weeks we'll prob get our actual unit (or maybe that one if we end up staying there) but once you get offered the position in the next two weeks im pretty sure it's guaranteed you're in for 2.5 years. (She said 2 year mandatory sign on after the 6 month orientation)
