Check your hospital/facilities procedure manual. Everyone on the unit has a role from Clerk to RN.

Specializes in Acute Care, Rehab, Palliative.

Also how a code goes depends on what happens with the patientas well.Every code is different.

Specializes in ER, progressive care.

Yes every code is different as mentioned above. There are different roles when a code is in place:

* Bedside RN: should be present to provide SBAR to the code team/physician.

* Team leader: can be the charge nurse (ACLS-certified), nursing supervisor (ACLS-certified), ER physician/patient's attending physician (once they arrive). The team leader manages the code.

* Recorder: this person documents every intervention performed on the code documentation sheet.

* Team member in charge of airway management: usually this is the respiratory therapist.

* Team member in charge of medications: the RN with the med tray in charge of getting all of the medications needed during the code.

* Team member(s) in charge of CPR: provide chest compressions. You need to rotate providers to prevent fatigue.

* Runners: typically CNAs or extra RNs. They run to get supplies needed.

We also have security and on the on-call hospital chaplain present during the code.
