Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP)

Hi, everyone! I am working on a group project and we are researching staffing trends -- more specifically, the use of UAP and the effect upon facilities and the RN community. Does anyone have any sites, journals, references that we could use to use for our research? We are specifically focusing on a bill that was proposed in our state (TN) that would allow UAP to administer meds to patients. I have even read an article advocating the use of UAP to administer dialysis to patients.

Any assistance you could give would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Do you have CINHL with full-text through Ebsco host? I entered unlicensed medical personnel AND administering medication and got 212125 full-text articles between 2002-2009. It is a great database for nursing stuff and if you do not have access, you can get access at most libraries. I know that I can access it from home with my library card.
  • More on unlicensed personnel administering meds... Good question, March 4.Nelson-Richardson D Nurseweek (15475131) (NURSEWEEK (S CENTRAL)), 2002 Mar 18; 7(6): 5
  • Unlicensed personnel passing medications. Erickson T Colorado Nurse(COLO NURSE), 2009 Mar; 109(1):
  • The use of unlicensed personnel: their impact upon professional nurses, patients and the management of nursing services.Marshall M Lecturer in Nursing, School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Tasmania, Sydney Campus St. Vincent's Hospital Nursing Monograph (NURS MONOGR), 2006: 4-8 (18 ref)
Lots of good stuff this was just the first three articles. Good Luck! Now I should probably stop farting around and get back to work myself.
