MRIs & Computer charing...HELP?!?

Hello,
I am a Registered Nurse at a Level One Trauma Center...We have moved to computerized charting and this is causing some major issues with nurses being unable to document while being in the room with the MRI patients. This is especially so in the Pediatric population where the children are usually very sick and have to be monitored continuously by nurse right by the machine. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this issue and what solution your institution came up with.
Thanks so much for any help anyone can provide.

Laptops mounted in each room or laptops on movable carts with wireless connections.

Why cant you just paper chart while in the MRI area and then once out document any significant changes into the computer. Nothing significant happend in MRI than just document "Patient to MRI, VS WNL, Patient exp no signs and symptoms of distress during procedure"

Can't you put the pt in transport in your system and notate they were in MRI? We can do that. Also take a flow sheet with you for MRI as well and document there.

DOH!

I don't get the problem. SO you sit in the MRI room and make notes on your paper brain same as always.

Ya know kind of change of topic but I have seen post like this before, people getting flustered by the computer charting..the patient care is the exact same. You still tend to the child in the MRI room. You just document differntly---just a pet peeve of mine lately as we have recently went to computer charting and I have seen too many nurses get caught up on the computer where it is actually keeping them from the actual patient!!

Hey everyone, thanks for your many replies!
Here is more on the situation:
1. Vitals have to be recorded every 5 minutes.
2. Some of these procedures last over 2 hours.
3. I understand the concept that they could use paper and transfer them to the computer later, but that takes too much time. Time that the hospital could be making more money doing more MRIs....and you all know it is all about the money.
4. Lastly, because we are on a computer system, we get docked by JCHAO auditors because our documentation is not all on the computer so we are trying to be more compliant and I was just looking for advice from anyone who's had similiar issues. But, maybe we are the only ones having this problem.

Hope this helps paint a clearer picture.

There has to be a way to recall information from the monitors.

You have to get your IT folks involved. Surely they will have some sort of a work-around, or should have.

Can you chart in the control room periodically? That's where I computer chart when I travel with pts to MRI.
